This is the Shepherd's Blessing from the Epilogue of the book.
If possible, I would encourage you to place your hands palms up in front of you in a posture of receiving. If that's not possible, take a deep breath. Invite the Holy Spirit to open your heart and receive. And so, dear shepherds, a blessing. Shepherds, may you walk closely with the one who knows his sheep by name. May you make yourself available as he uses you to call his other sheep by name into a life of healing and wholeness. May you be deeply aware of the presence of the Holy Spirit that you carry with you into sacred spaces of pain. May you be wildly attuned to the promptings of the Spirit as you go about your days. May you be abundantly obedient when the Spirit moves you. May your hands be gentle, not because you are weak, but because you know the strength of mercy. May your voice echo the tone of the shepherd king, never hurried, never harsh, always gentle with the hurting. May you remember that it is not your job to save, but to show up, not to fix, but to follow, not to carry the weight of outcomes, but to bear the weight of obedience. May you be the kind of presence that helps the hurting feel safe again. May you be quick to listen, slow to speak, and always ready to stay through the silence. May you abide in the shepherd even as you tend his sheep, and may his spirit renew your strength when you grow tired, restore your soul when it grows thin, and remind you again and again that you are being shepherded too. Go now not as the hero of anyone's story, but as the hands and feet of the one who laid down his life for the sheep. He is the good shepherd, and he is very, very good. Amen.
